More Than a Conqueror -Crossing Our Jordan

We continue today with the theme of being more than a conqueror. Undoubtedly, there is a need in all of our lives to conquer something. My hope is through these devotionals we will learn how to be more than just a conqueror through our faith and our walk with the Lord.

Here is an excerpt from another sermon on the theme.

Promise land in Scripture represents victorious living. Not everyone will get into Canaan because it is a matter of choice. You get to Canaan the same way you got saved, by grace through faith. There are barriers to it that we must overcome and we must learn some lessons before we can get over in Canaan.

  • Bitterness -how to deal with it

  • Complaining

  • Struggle with Authority

  • Learn how to worship

In Canaan then is where we will be more than conquerors. To be more than a conqueror, we must first be a conqueror. Romans 8:31 'If God be for us,' is conditional to if God is for you. For is positional. Your position is important. If God is our 'More than' then we are more than conquerors. If we step out before God, He will not be with us or for us. When I am in the midst of all my troubles, I am More than a Conqueror through Him that loved us. It is a spiritual battle that is fought on a spiritual level being led by the spirit. We cannot be more than a conqueror if we are led by the flesh because the flesh will not understand the battle.

We are made up of body, soul, and spirit. When we are living in the wilderness, the body is in control. It tells us what to like and not like. The spirit is how we speak to ourselves and God. The soul is dead until we are saved. When we are saved, the soul comes alive and communicates with us. The unsaved walk around following the body, and when saved, they follow the soul. When we walk in the spirit, we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

In Joshua 1:1-3, God gives promises that we can have to hold onto when the battle comes. Look for the promises that God is giving to you because He prepares us for Canaan before we get there. Sometimes we want to rush to get there but wait and let the Lord prepare us.

In Joshua 1:7 we see that our map to and through Canaan is the word of God. It is the word that sustains us. Meditate on the word and get it in us because it is the key to survival in Canaan.

Chapter three of Joshua shows Jordan as the place of power. There is something important about waiting until the power comes. Wait until we see God move, then we will know that it is time for us to move, we don't move before Him. Let God go before us and make the way clear for us. Watch God, then sanctify ourselves and expect the miraculous. Get into the water and trust God, go through and go with God.

Question: Who are you following, the body or the soul?

Thought: When we wait on God, we can be assured of victory.

Action: Make God your More Than, so that you can be More than a Conqueror.
